Choose Your Three Things

My dear friend Paige Weber shared with me a valuable piece of advice about a month ago. It wasn't anything foreign to me, it was just that it had never come across my mind before. Like the adage, "Keep it Simple Stupid", Weber's advice was similar. She asked me, “What three things are going to be your priorities this summer? Weber's three things were 1) her involvement with the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) as a National Committee member, 2) her internship and 3) having a social life.

It seemed like it would be fairly easy for me to come up with three, but I couldn’t. I quickly realized that I had way more than three things on my plate. I was working two jobs, had an internship, my responsibilities as a PRSSA National Committee member, and the list went on. As hard as it was for me to let go my other job, I soon realized that that was what I needed to. Ironically, I ended up choosing to prioritize the same three things in my life as Paige.

We can get caught up in the day to day things and lose sight of the things that truly matter most.

Don’t let making a living prevent you from making a life.
— John Wooden

As I now only focus on these three things, I feel much better. My life feels more balanced and I have more time to do the things that I enjoy.

What are your three things?
